Starting the engine

-
Always wear appropriate shoes when operating your vehicle. Unsuitable shoes (high heels, ski boots, etc.) may interfere with your ability to use the brake and accelerator pedal.
-
Do not start the vehicle with the accelerator pedal depressed. The vehicle can move and lead to an accident.
-
Wait until the engine rpm is normal. The vehicle may suddenly move if the brake pedal is released when the rpm is high.
Starting the vehicle with Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) (if equipped)
Operation
-
Make sure the parking brake is applied.
-
Depress the clutch pedal fully and shift the transmission into Neutral.
-
Keep the clutch pedal and brake pedal depressed while pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button to the START position.
-
For diesel engine, continue depressing the brake pedal until the glow indicator light goes out. When the glow indicator light goes out, the engine will start.

-
If you press the ENGINE START/STOP button to the START position without depressing the brake pedal and clutch pedal, the engine will not start, and "Press brake and clutch pedals to start engine" message will be displayed on the cluster.
-
When the shift lever is not placed in N (Neutral), "Shift to neutral to Auto Start" message will be displayed on the cluster.
Starting the gasoline engine
Operation
-
Make sure the parking brake is applied.
-
For Manual Transmission, depress the clutch pedal fully and shift to N (Neutral). Keep the clutch pedal and brake pedal depressed until the engine is started.
For Automatic Transmission/Dual Clutch Transmission, depress the brake pedal fully and make sure the gear is in P (Park). The engine can also be started when the gear is in N (Neutral).
-
Fully depress the brake pedal.
-
Turn the key to START position or press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
Starting the diesel engine
Operation
-
Make sure the parking brake is applied.
-
For Manual Transmission/Intelligent Manual Transmission, depress the clutch pedal fully and shift to N (Neutral).
-
Turn the key to ON position or press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The glow indicator (
) will illuminate.
-
If the glow indicator (
) is turned off, turn the key to START position or fully depress the brake (Automatic Transmission/Dual Clutch Transmission)
or brake and clutch (Manual Transmission/Intelligent Manual Transmission) pedal until the engine is started.

-
If the engine does not start within 10 seconds after the preheating is completed, turn the ignition key once more to the LOCK position for 10 seconds, and then to the ON position, in order to preheat again.
-
If the ENGINE START/STOP button is pressed once more while the engine is pre-heating, the engine may start.
Starting and stopping the turbocharged/intercooled engine (if equipped)
Operation
-
Idle the engine for a few seconds after turning the vehicle in START position to ensure the turbocharger is lubricated.
-
Idle the engine for approximately a minute before turning the vehicle in OFF position to allow the turbocharger to cool down.

Wait until the engine rpm is normal. The vehicle may suddenly move if the brake pedal is released when the rpm is high.

-
For Automatic Transmission/Dual Clutch Transmission, you can also start the engine when the gear is in the N (neutral) position, but for safety, be sure to start the engine only when the gear is in the P (Park) position.
-
Do not turn the engine off immediately after it has been subjected to a heavy load. Doing so may cause severe damage to the engine or turbocharger unit.
-
If the engine stalls while you are in motion, do not attempt to shift the gear to the P (Park) position. If traffic and road conditions permit, you may put the gear in the N (Neutral) position while the vehicle is still moving and turn the ignition switch to the START position in an attempt to restart the engine.
-
Do not engage the starter for more than 10 seconds. If the engine stalls or fails to start, wait 5 to 10 seconds before re-engaging the starter. Improper use of the starter may damage it.
-
Do not turn the ignition switch to the START position with the engine running. It may damage the starter.

If your vehicle is equipped with a kickdown mechanism in the accelerator pedal, it prevents you from driving at full throttle unintentionally by making the driver require increased effort to depress the accelerator pedal.
