Releasing the parking brake with EPB switch

Driving your vehicle
- Be sure the exhaust system does not leak.
The exhaust system should be checked whenever the vehicle is raised to change the oil or for any other purpose.
- Before driving
Before entering your Kia, examine it and its surroundings. After getting into the vehicle, you should check a number of things before driving.
- Ignition switch
- ENGINE START/STOP button
- Automatic transmission (Shift Lever)
- All Wheel Drive (AWD) system
The All Wheel Drive (AWD) system delivers engine power to front and rear wheels for maximum traction.
- Brake system
Your vehicle has power-assisted brakes, parking brake, and various braking systems for safe driving.
  - Power brakes
Your vehicle has power-assisted brakes that adjust automatically through normal usage.
  - Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)
After parking the vehicle, apply the EPB to prevent the vehicle from being moved by the external force.
    - Applying the parking brake
    - Releasing the parking brake with EPB switch
    - Automatic release of EPB
The EPB is released automatically under following conditions.
    - EPB warning
The EPB will display a warning message with sound under certain conditions.
    - EPB malfunction indicator
This warning light appears if the ENGINE START/STOP button is changed to the ON position and goes off in approximately 3 seconds if the system is operating normally.
    - When the EPB is not released
  - AUTO HOLD
The Auto Hold is designed to maintain the vehicle in a standstill even though the brake pedal is not pressed after the driver brings the vehicle to a complete stop by pressing the brake pedal.
  - Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) prevents the wheels from locking during hard braking. This helps to stabilize the vehicle and allows it to be steered.
  - Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system
The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system can reduce the risk of spinning or plowing during cornering maneuvers and under certain conditions. It can automatically brake individual wheels and moderate engine speed to reduce those risks. When the ESC system intervenes, you may hear a ticking sound from the braking and feel vibration on the brake pedal. Your engine power may decrease.
  - Downhill Brake Control (DBC)
  - Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)
A vehicle has the tendency to roll back on a steep hill when it starts to go after stopping. The HAC prevents the vehicle from rolling back by applying the brakes automatically for about 2 seconds.
  - Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system
  - Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) system
  - Brake Assistant System (BAS)
  - Crosswind Stability Control (CSC)
  - Active air flap
- Good braking practices
Good braking practices help keep occupants safe and extend brake life.
- Vehicle Auto Shut-off system
- Idle Stop and Go (ISG) system
- Drive mode integrated control system
- Economical operation
- Special driving conditions
If driving conditions deteriorate due to poor weather or road conditions, you should pay even more attention than usual to your driving.
- Winter driving
Winter driving presents additional challenges and risks.
- Trailer towing
If you are considering towing with your vehicle, you should first check with your country’s Department of Motor Vehicles to determine their legal requirements.
