Seat belt warning

The seat belt warning light and warning chime operate under the following conditions:

Front seat belt warning light

As a reminder to the front passenger, the seat belt warning light appears for approximately 6 seconds each time you start the vehicle to ON position, regardless of whether the belt is fastened. The seat belt warning light illuminates until the seatbelt is fastened. If you start to drive between approximately 9 km/h (5 mph) and 20 km/h (12 mph) without the front passenger seat belt fastened, the corresponding warning light appears.

If you drive at approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) or faster without the seat belt fastened, or unfasten it while driving at these speeds, the warning light blinks continuously and the warning chime sounds for a certain period of time. If the seat belt is unfastened at speeds between 9 km/h (5 mph) and 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light appears but does not blink or sound the chime until you exceed 20 km/h (12 mph).

TIP
  • Even if the front passenger seat is not occupied, the seat belt warning light will appear for approximately 6 seconds.

  • The front passenger’s seat belt warning may operate when luggage is placed on the front passenger seat.

For rear seat
  • When the vehicle is POWER ON or DRIVE READY, the warning light will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds. The warning light will continue to stay illuminated until the seat belt is fastened. If no passengers are detected, the warning light will activate for approximately 6 seconds and then turn off.

  • If the seat belt is unfastened while driving and the vehicle’s speed is below approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light will remain illuminated. If the vehicle’s speed is above approximately 20 km/h (12 mph) and the seat belt is unfastened while driving, the warning light (flashing) and warning sound will operate for about 100 seconds. After that, the warning light will continue to stay illuminated until the seat belt is fastened.

For rear center seat
  • When the vehicle is POWER ON or DRIVE READY, the warning light will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds. Afterwards, regardless of passenger occupancy, if the seat belt is not fastened, the warning light will stay illuminated for approximately 70 seconds.

  • If the seat belt is unfastened while driving after it has been initially fastened, and the vehicle’s speed is below approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light will remain illuminated for approximately 70 seconds. If the vehicle’s speed is above approximately 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light (flashing) and warning sound will operate for approximately 35 seconds.

  • Unbuckling the seatbelt before the vehicle comes to a complete stop will cause an alarm to sound and the seatbelt reminder light to blink. This warning may continue for up to 35 seconds after you exit the vehicle. Always unbuckle your seatbelt only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

  • When the rear door is opened or closed, and the vehicle speed is under 10 km/h (6 mph)

    • Seat belt warning light and the seat belt warning chime will not work even if the vehicle speed is over approximately 20 km/h (12 mph).

WARNING
  • Riding in an improper position adversely affects the front seat belt warning system. It is important for the driver to instruct the passenger to properly be seated as instructed in this manual.
