Integrated recovery hook precautions
-
Ensure all attaching points are secure and capable of withstanding the applied load.
-
Do not use chains, cables, or tow straps with metal hook ends.
-
Use only recovery straps with a minimum breaking strength two to three times the gross vehicle weight of the stuck vehicle.
-
Make sure the recovery strap is in good condition and free of visible cuts, tears, or other damage.
-
Place a damper device (such as a tarp, heavy blanket, or piece of carpet) over the recovery strap to help absorb energy if the strap breaks.
-
Recovery hooks should only be used by individuals familiar with proper vehicle recovery safety practices. Improper use may cause hook failure or separation from the vehicle, resulting in serious injury or death.
-
Always remove the slack from the recovery strap slowly before pulling. Sudden loads can cause the recovery hooks to break or the strap to fail, which may result in serious injury or death.
-
Never connect two straps with a clevis pin. If a strap breaks, the pin can become a projectile and cause serious injury or death.
-
Never pull on the recovery hooks from the side. The hooks may break, causing injury to you or others. Always pull the vehicle straight from the front when using the recovery hooks.
Do not apply a load to the recovery hooks that exceeds the vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating.
