Shift lock system
For your safety, the transmission has a shift lock system that prevents you from shifting the transmission from P (Park) to R (Reverse) unless the brake pedal is engaged.
To shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse):
-
Engage and hold the brake pedal.
-
Start the vehicle to ON position.
-
Move the gear shift lever.
If you repeatedly engage and release the brake pedal with the shift lever in P (Park), you may hear a chattering noise and vibration near the shift lever. This is normal.
Always engage the brake pedal fully before and while moving the shift lever from P (Park) into another position to avoid inadvertent vehicle motion, which could injure people in or around the vehicle.
