Virtual Gear Shift (VGS)
In an electric vehicle equipped with a motor and a reducer, the Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) function controls the motor using VCU to deliver a driving experience similar to that of a vehicle with an internal combustion engine.

Basic function
-
Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system allows to bring an experience of shifting gears in a petrol car to a Battery powered Vehicle.
-
Shift patterns: Differentiate patterns, decrease brake deceleration rate, calibrate transmission etc. for each mode
-
Shift feel: Differentiate upshifting/downshifting, REV matching when downshifting etc. for each mode
-
Automatic/Manual Mode: Switch mode from automatic shift to manual shift by operating the left/right paddle shift levers. (Pull and hold the right paddle shifter (
) for more than 2 seconds to switch mode from manual shift to automatic shift.) -
Sound simulation: Virtual engine sound matched with motor torque for each RPM/gear.
-
Interface implementation: Automatic/manual mode (paddle shifts), cluster (motor RPM, gear position).

Operating conditions
The vehicle is in the DRIVE READY position.
-
This function is available in all driving modes except ECO and SNOW modes.
-
VGS might not be available when there is a malfunction with one of your electric vehicle system features, such as Smart Cruise Control, Launch Control, Remote Smart Parking Assist, or low SOC (State of Charge).
-
When entering ECO mode or smart cruise control while VGS is in operation, the VGS function is temporarily suspended. After disabling ECO mode and smart cruise control, re-enter the VGS function.
-
The VGS function may not operate properly due to temporary communication failures.
-
VGS might be partially limited under specific conditions, such as when the high voltage battery is fully charged, the SOC is low, or driver safety functions like TCS or ESC are activated.
-
You can use the VGS function as a manual transmission. The left paddle shifter (

) becomes the [-] gear and the right paddle shifter (
) becomes the [+] gear.
