Releasing the parking brake manually

Have the ENGINE START/STOP button in the ON position.

Press the brake pedal.

Make sure the gear is shifted to P (Park) position.

Press the EPB switch.

Make sure the brake warning light goes off.
Releasing the parking brake automatically

Under following conditions, the EPB is released automatically after slowly depressing the accelerator pedal. For your safety, check if the brake warning light is turned off.

The vehicle engine is running
-
The driver's seat belt is fastened
-
The driver's door, hood, trunk is closed
-
The gear is in R (Reverse) or D (Drive)

For your safety, you can engage the EPB even though the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position, but you cannot release it.

For your safety, depress the brake pedal and release the parking brake manually with the EPB switch when you drive downhill or when backing up the vehicle.

If the parking brake warning light is still on even though the EPB has been released, have the system checked by a professional workshop. Visit an authorized Kia dealer.

Do not drive your vehicle with the EPB applied. It may cause excessive brake pad and brake rotor wear.
