Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) prevents the wheels from locking up in order to steer and stabilize the vehicle.

If the ABS warning light ( ) stays on, contact a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends that you visit an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

  • Slight vibration and noise through the brake pedal whilst ABS is operating are normal.

  • Even with ABS, a sufficient braking distance is required. Always maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

  • ABS cannot prevent the vehicle from sliding sideways.

NOTE
  • If the ABS warning light and the brake warning light are turned on at the same time, the front and rear wheel distribution function of the braking force does not work, so the vehicle may become unstable during sudden braking. If the warning light is turned on, avoid high-speed driving or sudden braking, and contact a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends that you visit an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

  • A click sound may be heard in the vehicle compartment when the vehicle begins to move after the vehicle is started. These conditions are normal and indicate that the ABS is functioning properly.

  • When you jump start your vehicle because of a drained battery, the vehicle may not run as smoothly and the ABS warning light may turn on at the same time. This happens because of low battery voltage. It does not mean your ABS has malfunctioned.

    • Do not pump your brakes!

    • Have the 12V battery recharged before driving the vehicle.
