Driving your vehicle
- Before driving
Before you get into your vehicle, examine the vehicle and its surroundings. After you get into your vehicle, check a number of things before driving, as described in this section.
- EV button
- Shift lever
Electric vehicles transmit the rotation of the motor to the wheel through the reducer.
  - Shift lever position
The indicator on the instrument cluster displays the shift lever position when the vehicle is in POWER ON position.
  - Shift lock system
The shift lock system prevents you from shifting from P (Park) to N (Neutral), R (Reverse), or D (Drive), or from N (Neutral) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive), unless the brake pedal is engaged.
  - When the 12V battery is discharged
  - Instrument cluster display for warning message
The instrument cluster displays each of the following warning messages when applicable:
  - Good driving practices
- Regenerative braking system
The regenerative braking system lets you charge the battery when you use the brakes to stop the vehicle.
- Smart regeneration system
The smart regeneration system controls regenerative braking automatically according to the gradient of the road and the driving condition of the vehicle ahead. The system minimizes unnecessary operation of the brake and accelerator pedals, improving the vehicle’s electrical efficiency and assisting you while driving.
- Brake system
Your vehicle has power-assisted brakes, a parking brake, and various braking systems for safe driving.
- Vehicle safety system
- Vehicle Auto Shut-off system
The Vehicle Auto Shut-off system automatically turns your vehicle off after a certain amount of time (set by you) to reduce energy consumption and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Drive mode integrated control system
The drive mode integrated control system allows the driver to select the drive mode appropriate for the surrounding environment.
- All Wheel Drive (AWD)
When you activate all-wheel drive (AWD), it distributes driving forces appropriately to the front and rear wheels. AWD could improve driving performance by maximizing the driving force of the vehicle on severe road conditions, such as steep hills or unpaved or slippery roads.
- Performance Timer (for GT)
Performance timer measures the time it takes to reach a specific speed range and displays the performance time.
- Launch Control (for GT)
Launch control is a function that applies pre-torque in a stationary state to prepare for launch and delivers a punchy acceleration feel during takeoff.
- Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) (for GT)
Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) is designed for electric vehicle that consists of motor and decelerator only. Virtual Gear Shift gives the shifting feel of an automatic transmission of an internal combustion engine by controlling the VPC motor.
- Maximum Power Output Mode (for GT)
Maximum Power Output Mode optimizes temperature of power electric systems including high voltage battery to provide high acceleration performance of the GT. Available power output will be displayed on the split screen when this mode is activated.
- Active Air Flap (AAF)
Active Air Flap (AAF) controls the air flap below the front bumper to cool vehicle parts and improve energy economy.
- Active sound design
Active sound design generates a virtual engine sound when the accelerator pedal is pressed to enhance driving enjoyment.
- Economical operation
- Special driving conditions
In poor weather or road conditions, you should drive even more carefully than usual.
- Winter driving
Severe weather conditions in the winter result in greater tire wear and other problems. To minimize issues related to winter driving, you should follow the suggestions in these sections:
- Trailer towing precautions
This vehicle does not support a trailer package.
- Vehicle load limit
The tire and loading information label on the driver side door displays your vehicle’s load limit.
- Vehicle weight
This section offers guidance for properly loading your vehicle to keep your loaded vehicle weight within its design rating capability. Properly loading your vehicle maximizes your vehicle’s design performance. Before loading your vehicle, familiarize yourself with the following terms for determining your vehicle’s weight ratings, from your vehicle’s specifications, and from the certification label:
