You can tow a 2WD vehicle with the wheels without a driving system on the ground (without dollies). Release the parking bake before turning the vehicle OFF.

If you must tow the vehicle using only 2 wheels, lift the driven wheels off the ground.

CAUTION
  • If any of the loaded wheels or suspension components are damaged, or the vehicle is being towed with the driven wheels on the ground, use a towing dolly under the driven wheels.

  • Do not tow the vehicle using sling-type equipment. Use wheel lift or flatbed equipment.

  • Do not tow the vehicle backward with the driven wheels on the ground. This might damage the vehicle.

Precautions when moving a short distance using towing hook and so on before towing vehicle

For 2WD vehicle

Move short distances within 328 ft (100 m) at a speed of 3 mph (5 km/h) or less only when loading on a tow truck or if the vehicle needs to be repositioned.

At this time, the gear must be in the N (Neutral) position and the parking brake must be released. If it is impossible to operate the gear and parking brake, move the vehicle by using dollies, tire skate, etc. with front wheels, i.e. driving wheel, lifted.

For 4WD vehicle (if equipped)

Move short distances within 328 ft (100 m) at a speed of 3 mph (5 km/h) or less only when loading on a tow truck or if the vehicle needs to be repositioned.

At this time, the gear must be in the N (Neutral) position and the parking brake must be released. If it is impossible to operate the gear and parking brake, move the vehicle by using dollies, tire skate, etc. with all wheels lifted.
