Owner maintenance

The following lists are vehicle checks and inspections that should be performed by the owner or an authorized Kia dealer at the frequencies indicated to help ensure safe, dependable operation of your vehicle.

Bring any adverse conditions to the attention of your dealer as soon as possible.

These owner maintenance checks are generally not covered by your warranty, and you may be charged for labor, parts, and lubricants used.

When you stop for charge

  • Check the coolant level in coolant reservoir.

  • Check the windshield washer fluid level.

WARNING

Be careful when checking your coolant level when the motor compartment is hot. This may result in coolant being blown out of the opening and cause serious burns and other injuries.

While operating your vehicle:

  • Check for vibrations in the steering wheel. Notice any increased steering effort, looseness in the steering wheel, or change in its straight-ahead position.

  • Notice whether your vehicle constantly turns slightly, or if it “pulls” or drifts to one side, when traveling on a smooth, level road.

  • When stopping, listen for unusual sounds and check for drifting to one side, increased brake pedal travel, or difficulty engaging the brake pedal.

  • If any slipping or changes in the operation of your gear shift occurs, take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer.

  • Check the vehicle P (Park) function.

  • Check for fluid leaks under your vehicle (water dripping from the air conditioning system during or after use is normal).

At least monthly:

  • Check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir.

  • Check the operation of all exterior lights, including the stop/tail lamps, turn signals and hazard warning flashers.

  • Check the inflation pressures of all tires including the spare for tires that are worn, show uneven wear, or are damaged.

  • Check for loose wheel lug nuts.

At least twice a year:

  • Check the windshield washer spray and wiper operation. Clean the wiper blades with a clean cloth dampened with washer fluid.

  • Check the head lamp alignment.

  • Check the lap and shoulder bands of the seat belt for wear and function.

At least once a year:

  • Clean the body and door drain holes.

  • Lubricate the door hinges and check the hood hinges.

  • Lubricate the door, hood locks, and latches.

  • Lubricate the door rubber weather strips.

  • Check the air conditioning system.

  • Inspect and lubricate reducer linkage and controls.

  • Clean the 12V battery and terminals.

  • Check the brake fluid level.
