High voltage (HV) lithium-ion battery

  • If you do not drive or charge your vehicle, the high voltage battery’s charge level might gradually decrease.

  • If you park your vehicle in high or low temperatures, the high voltage battery’s capacity might decrease over time.

  • Even if the charge level remains the same, the distance to empty might vary depending on driving conditions (such as cargo load, rain, snow, wind, and road surfaces). When driving at a fast pace or uphill, the high voltage battery might expend more energy and the distance to empty might decrease.

  • Air conditioning and heating rely on the high voltage battery. Using air conditioning or heating might reduce the distance to empty. Be sure to set a moderate temperature when using air conditioning or heating and/or use the pre-conditioning feature prior to departure.

  • The high voltage battery might naturally degrade depending on the vehicle’s lifespan and the number of charging cycles. Degradation of the high voltage battery reduces the distance to empty over time.

  • When the charge capacity and distance to empty suddenly or dramatically drops, contact an authorized Kia dealer for inspection and maintenance.

  • If you are not using your vehicle for an extended period of time, charge the high voltage battery once every three months to prevent it from losing its charge. If the vehicle’s battery charge is insufficient, immediately charge it to full capacity and park it.

  • To keep the high voltage battery in optimal condition, use AC charging.

  • Maintain the high voltage battery’s performance by fully charging it whenever the charge level is below 20%. Fully charge the high voltage battery at least once a month.

  • The high voltage battery’s charge level might vary depending on charging conditions such as the state of the charger, the outside temperature, the battery temperature, and so on. When you fully charge the high voltage battery, its current gradually decreases to ensure its longevity and safety.

CAUTION
  • Be sure to use a designated charger when charging the high voltage battery. Using non-approved or inappropriate chargers might seriously impact your vehicle’s durability.

  • Leaving your vehicle insufficiently charged for a long period of time might damage the high voltage battery. In this case, you might have to replace the high voltage battery (depending on the level of degradation).

  • If the vehicle is in a collision, contact an authorized Kia dealer to inspect whether the high voltage battery is still connected.

  • The Vehicle to Load (V2L) function uses energy from the high voltage battery and might reduce your vehicle’s mileage. The repeated use of the V2L function might decrease the high voltage battery’s lifespan.
