Releasing EPB manually

  1. Turn on the vehicle.

  2. Press the brake pedal.

  3. Make sure the vehicle is in P (Park).

  4. Press the EPB switch.

  5. Make sure the brake warning light () goes off.

Make sure the brake warning light () illuminates. If AUTO HOLD is active when the vehicle is turned off, EPB is applied automatically. The EPB is also applied if the EPB switch is pulled up after the vehicle is turned off. Do not operate the EPB whilst driving, except in emergency situations.

NOTE
  • If the vehicle does not remain stationary on a steep incline or whilst pulling a trailer, follow the steps below:

    1. Apply the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB).

    2. Pull up the EPB switch and hold it for more than 3 seconds.

  • A clicking sound or electric brake motor whine may be heard when applying or releasing the EPB. This is normal and indicates proper system operation.

Releasing EPB automatically

The EPB is released automatically under following conditions:

  • Whilst the vehicle is in POWER ON position and the brake pedal is depressed, the EPB will be released automatically if the vehicle is shifted from P (Park) or N (Neutral) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive). For your safety, check if the brake warning light () is turned off and release the brake pedal.

  • Under following conditions, the EPB is released automatically after slowly depressing the accelerator pedal. For your safety, check if the brake warning light is turned off.

    • The vehicle is in POWER ON position

    • The driver's seat belt is fastened

    • The driver's door, bonnet, tailgate is closed

    • The vehicle is in R (Reverse) or D (Drive)

NOTE
  • For your safety, you can engage the EPB even though the vehicle is turned off, but you cannot release it.

  • For your safety, depress the brake pedal and release the parking brake manually with the EPB switch when you drive downhill or when backing up the vehicle.

  • If the parking brake warning light is still on even though the EPB has been released, have the system checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends that you visit an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

  • Do not drive your vehicle with the EPB applied. It may cause excessive brake pad and brake rotor wear.
