The indicator in the instrument cluster displays the gear position when the vehicle is in POWER ON position.
P (Park)
-
Always come to a complete stop before shifting to P (Park).
-
To shift from R (Reverse), N (Neutral) or D (Drive) to P (Park), press the P button.
-
If you turn the vehicle off in R (Reverse), N (Neutral), D (Drive), the vehicle will automatically shift to P (Park).
-
Do not shift to P (Park) whilst the vehicle is in motion. Doing so may cause loss of vehicle control.
-
After the vehicle has come to a complete stop, shift to P (Park), apply the parking brake, and turn off the vehicle.
-
Do not use P (Park) as a substitute for the parking brake.
-
With the vehicle in POWER ON position, the vehicle will automatically shift to P (Park) if you open the driver's door when the vehicle is in R (Reverse), N (Neutral), D (Drive) and the following conditions are met:
-
The brake/accelerator pedal is not depressed.
-
The seat belt is unfastened.
-
The vehicle speed is below 2 km/h (1 mph).
-
-
When the vehicle is over a certain speed, the vehicle will not shift to P (Park) when the P button is pressed.
R (Reverse)
Turn the shift lever to R (Reverse) position whilst depressing the brake pedal to shift to R (Reverse).
Always come to a complete stop before shifting into or out of R (Reverse). Shifting into R (Reverse) whilst the vehicle is moving may damage the power electric system.
An exception applies when "rocking the vehicle." (Refer to Special driving conditions.)
N (Neutral)
-
Turn the shift lever slightly up or down whilst depressing the brake pedal to shift to N (Neutral).
-
Always depress the brake pedal when you are shifting from N (Neutral) to another gear.
-
In N (Neutral), if the driver attempts to turn off the vehicle, the vehicle will turn off and shift to P (Park) automatically.
-
Always shift to P (Park) and apply the parking brake when parking the vehicle. If the vehicle is left in N (Neutral), it may move and cause serious damage or injury.
-
For vehicles equipped with Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and AUTO HOLD, the EPB will engage automatically when the vehicle is turned off. After the vehicle is turned off, the EPB cannot be released. To prevent this, turn off AUTO HOLD before turning off the vehicle.
D (Drive)
-
Turn the shift lever to D (Drive) position whilst depressing the brake pedal to shift to D (Drive).
-
In D (Drive), if the driver attempts to turn off the vehicle, the vehicle is turned off and shifted to the P (Park) position automatically.
