Vehicle data collection and event data recorders
The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record such data as:
-
How various systems in your vehicle were operating;
-
Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened;
-
How far (if at all) the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; and,
-
How fast the vehicle was traveling
In order to record vehicle speed in an EDR, the data for the speed of 4 wheels is collected from the source information.
An EDR records events which exceeds the trigger threshold. The trigger threshold means the change of longitudinal/lateral delta-V over 8 km/h within 150 ms. If non-reversible restraint system is activated, that event is recorded in the EDR and it is not overridden. In other words, in an event that non-reversible restraint system is not activated, it can be overridden in the EDR.
To read data recorded by an EDR, special equipment is required, and access to the vehicle or the EDR is needed. It is possible to read data by connecting with OBD terminal or by connecting with EDR terminal directly. To acquire the data in the EDR, we recommend that you consult an authorized Kia dealer for necessary information.
