Door locks
with the smart Key

Carrying the smart key, you may lock and unlock the vehicle doors (and trunk). Also, you may start the engine. Refer to the following for more details.
Locking
Pressing the button of the front driver side door handles with all doors closed and any door unlocked, locks all the doors. If all doors and engine hood are closed, the hazard warning lights will blink once to indicate that all doors are locked.
The button will only operate when the smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in) from the driver side door handle. If you want to make sure that a door has locked or not, you should pull the driver side door handle.
Even though you press the driver side door handle buttons, the doors will not lock and the chime will sound for 3 seconds if any of following occur:

The smart key is in the vehicle.

The ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ACC or ON position.
-
Any door except the trunk is open.
Unlocking
Pressing the button of the front driver side door handles with all doors closed and locked, unlocks all the doors. The hazard warning lights blink twice to indicate that all doors are unlocked.
The button will only operate when the smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in) from the front driver side door handle.
When the smart key is recognized in the area of 0.7~1 m (28~40 in) from the front driver side door handle, other people can also open the door without possession of the smart key.
After pressing the button, the doors will lock automatically unless you open any door within 30 seconds.

Doors can also be locked and unlocked with the transmitter.

Once the doors are unlocked, they may be opened by pulling the door handle.

When closing the door, push the door by hand. Make sure the doors are closed securely.
Operating door locks from inside the vehicle
With the door handle

Front door
If the inner door handle is pulled when the door is locked, the door will unlock and open.
-
Rear door
If the inner door handle is pulled once when the door is locked, the door will unlock.
If the inner door handle is pulled once more, the door will open.

Door lock malfunction
If a power door lock ever fails to function while you are in the vehicle, try one or more of the following techniques to exit:
-
Operate the door unlock feature repeatedly (both electronic and manual) while simultaneously pulling on the door handle.

Operate the other door locks and handles, front and rear.
-
Lower a front window and use the key to unlock the door from outside.
-
Move to the cargo area and open the trunk.

Do not pull the inner door handle of driver's (or passenger's) door while the vehicle is moving.

Operate by pressing the central door lock switch.

To lock all vehicle doors, press the central door lock switch (1) of driver and passenger side.

To unlock all vehicle doors, press central door unlock switch (2) of driver and passenger side.
When all vehicle doors are locked, the indicating lights (3) on the driver’s door and passenger’s door will turn on. If any door is unlocked, it would go off.
If the key is in the ignition switch (or if the smart key is in the vehicle) and any door is opened, the doors will not lock even though the central door lock switch is pressed.

Doors

The doors should always be fully closed and locked while the vehicle is in motion to prevent accidental opening of the door. Locked doors will also discourage potential intruders when the vehicle stops or slows down.

Be careful when opening doors and watch for vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles or pedestrians approaching the vehicle in the path of the door. Opening a door when something is approaching can cause damage or injury.

Unlocked vehicles
Leaving your vehicle unlocked can invite theft or possible harm to you or others from someone hiding in your vehicle while you are gone. Always remove the ignition key, engage the parking brake, close all windows and lock all doors when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Unattended children
An enclosed vehicle can become extremely hot, causing death or severe injury to unattended children or animals who cannot escape the vehicle. Furthermore, children might operate features of the vehicle that could injure them, or they could encounter other harm, possibly from someone gaining entry to the vehicle. Never leave children or animals unattended in your vehicle.
Door lock/unlock features
Impact sensing door unlock system
All doors will automatically unlock when an impact causes the air bags to deploy.
Speed sensing door lock system
All doors will automatically lock after the vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h.
You can activate or deactivate the auto door lock/unlock features in the vehicle. Refer to More Details.
Electronic child safety lock system (if equipped)

To cancel the electronic child safety lock system, push the electronic child safety lock system switch one more time and then the indicator turns off.
Safe Exit Assist system is operated when the electronic child safety lock system is activated and SEA system is selected in the cluster. However, SEA does not automatically activate the electronic child safety lock system.
The electronic child safety lock system is always on when the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON or ignition ON state and for approximately 10 minutes after the engine is turned off.
If your vehicle is equipped with the Electronic child safety lock system, the Child-protector rear door locks, which are manually operated, are not provided.
If electronic child safety lock system is activated, rear passenger cannot open or close the rear window also. For more details, refer to More Details.

If the Electronic child safety lock system is not operated when pushing the Electronic child safety lock switch, the message is displayed and the alarm will sound.

If this occurs, have the system checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer.
In case of an emergency
If the electrical power door lock switch is not operating (ex. dead car battery) the only way to lock the door(s) is with the mechanical key from the outside key hole.
Doors without an outside key hole can be locked as follows:


If the electrical power to door lock switch is not operating (ex. dead car battery) and the trunk is closed, you will not be able to open the trunk until power is restored.
Child-protector r ear door lock (if equipped)

The rear door safety locks should be used whenever children are in the vehicle.
The child safety lock is located on the edge of each rear door. When the child safety lock is in the lock position (1), the rear door will not open if the inner door handle is pulled.
To lock the child safety lock, insert a key (or screwdriver) into the hole and turn it to the lock position.
To allow a rear door to be opened from inside the vehicle, unlock the child safety lock.
To open the rear door, pull the outside door handle (2).

Rear door locks
If children accidentally open the rear doors while the vehicle is in motion, they could fall out and be severely injured or killed. To prevent children from opening the rear doors from the inside, the rear door safety locks should be used whenever children are in the vehicle.
Safe Exit Assist (SEA) (if equipped)

The "Check surroundings then try again" warning message appears on the cluster and a warning sounds.
When the system detects an approaching vehicle the moment a door is opened, the "Watch for traffic" warning message appears on the cluster and a warning sounds.

The above 2 and 3 functions are activated when you select 'Driver Assistance � → Blind-Spot Safety → Safe Exit Assistance' from the User Settings mode in the cluster LCD display.

Safe Exit Assist system may not operate normally if there is any vehicle or obstacle at the rear area of your vehicle.
-
Safe Exit Assist system may not operate normally when a vehicle is coming rapidly two lanes over from your vehicle or a vehicle is approaching at a fast speed from the rear in the lane next to your vehicle.

Safe Exit Assist system may be activated later than normal or may not operate normally if a vehicle is approaching fast from the rear of your vehicle.
-
Safe Exit Assist system will not operate if there is a malfunction with Blind-Spot Collision Warning system as follows:
-
When BCW warning message appears.
When BCW sensor or the sensor surrounding is polluted or covered.
-
When BCW does not warn or warns wrongly.

The system does not detect every obstacle approaching the vehicle exit.
-
The driver and passenger are responsible for any obstacles while exiting the vehicle.
Always check the surrounding before you exit the vehicle.
