Limitations of Parking Distance Warning
Parking Distance Warning may operate abnormally or unexpectedly under the following circumstances:
-
Ice is on the sensor
The sensor is covered with foreign material, such as snow, ice, or water. (Parking Distance Warning operates properly when you remove such substances.)
-
The weather is extremely hot or cold.
-
The sensor or sensor assembly is damaged.
-
You press the surface of the sensor hard or hit it with a hard object.
-
You scratch the surface of the sensor with a sharp object.
-
You spray the sensors or their surrounding areas directly with a high pressure washer.
-
Objects emitting ultrasonic waves (such as a vehicle’s horn, motorcycle engine, or large vehicle air brakes) are nearby.
-
A wireless device with a transmitting function is operating near the ultrasonic sensors
-
During strong winds
-
If sensor damage or misalignment occurs due to vehicle accidents, such as bumper damage
Parking Distance Warning may malfunction when:
-
Heavy rain or water spray is present.
-
Water flows across the surface of the sensor.
-
Affected by another vehicle’s sensors
The sensor is covered with snow or ice.
-
You are driving on an uneven road, gravel road, or road with dense overgrowth.
-
Objects that generate ultrasonic waves are near the sensor.
-
The license plate is installed in a different spot from the original location.
-
A license plate that does not meet official specifications is installed
-
The vehicle bumper height or ultrasonic sensor installation has been modified.
-
You have attached equipment or accessories near the ultrasonic sensors.
-
A cargo carrier (trailer or carrier) is installed at the rear of the vehicle
-
The vehicle’s ride height changes significantly due to abnormal tire pressure, overloading, etc.
-
A trailer hitch is installed on the vehicle
The following objects may not be detected:
-
Slim objects such as ropes, chains, or small poles.
-
Narrow objects, such as the corners of a square column.
-
Objects that tend to absorb ultrasonic waves, such as clothes, spongy material, or snow.
-
Objects shorter than 40 in (100 cm) in length and narrower than 6 in (14 cm) in diameter.
-
Pedestrians, animals, or objects that are very close to the ultrasonic sensors.
-
Objects in the side space between the front and rear side ultrasonic sensors, or approaching the side space.
-
Parking Distance Warning is a supplemental function. Several factors can affect the operation of Parking Distance Warning, including environmental conditions. It is your responsibility to always check your surroundings before and while parking.
-
Your new vehicle warranty does not cover any accidents or damage to your vehicle due to any malfunction of Parking Distance Warning.
-
Pay close attention when driving near objects, pedestrians, and especially children. The ultrasonic sensors may not detect some objects due to their distance, size, or material, all of which can limit the sensor’s effectiveness.
-
Parking Distance Warning does not warn you about objects in the order it detects them. The warning order varies depending on the speed of your vehicle or the shape of a person, animal, or object.
-
If Parking Distance Warning does not operate properly, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
-
Driving with the liftgate open is abnormal and may be unsafe. Exercise caution.
-
Some objects may not be detected by the ultrasonic sensors due to their size, shape, material, or distance from the vehicle. This can limit sensor performance.
-
Always keep the detection sensors clean.
-
Clean the sensor surfaces with water. Do not use acidic or alkaline detergents.
-
Do not spray high-pressure water directly onto the sensors or their surrounding areas. Impact from high-pressure water may cause sensor malfunction.
-
Do not cover the sensors with external objects (stickers, bumper guards, etc.) or paint the bumper. This may degrade the performance of Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist.
-
Do not disassemble or apply impact to the sensor components.
-
Avoid impacts to the sensors. If a sensor is displaced by impact, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist may not function properly. If a sensor is damaged due to impact, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
-
If the bumper is damaged, replaced, or repaired, the Parking Distance Warning may not function properly.
-
Strong electromagnetic waves may disable Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist.
-
Excessive audio volume may prevent you from hearing warning sounds. Adjust the vehicle’s interior volume appropriately and always pay attention.
