If your vehicle is equipped with a hitch cover, remove it before using the hitch receiver. The cover is located at the center of the lower rear bumper.

To remove the hitch cover:

  1. Remove the two clips at the bottom of the hitch cover using a screwdriver.

  2. Pull the lower edge of the hitch cover toward you to release the two side claws. Then, tilt the cover about 30 degrees and pull it downward to remove it.

  3. Keep the removed cover and clips in a safe place. The cover and clips can be stored in the luggage tray area.

  4. To reinstall the cover after towing, follow the above procedure in reverse order.

WARNING

When reinstalling the tow hitch cover, use the appropriate fasteners and ensure it is securely installed. If the tow hitch cover is not properly secured, it may detach from the vehicle and create a road hazard.

NOTE

  • When reinstalling the hitch cover, make sure it is securely fastened with the original clips.

  • The bumpers on your vehicle are not intended for hitches. Do not attach rental hitches or other bumper-type hitches to them. Use only a frame mounted hitch that does not attach to the bumper.

  • Any part of the rear license plate or lighting devices of the vehicle must not be obscured by the mechanical coupling device. If the rear number plate and/or lighting devices can be obscured partially by any part of the mechanical coupling device, mechanical coupling devices that cannot be easily removed or repositioned without use of any tools, except an easily operated (an effort not exceeding 15 lbf.ft (20 Nm) release key that is supplied by the manufacturer of the coupling device, are not permitted for use. Note that the mechanical coupling device that is fitted and not used must always be removed or repositioned if the rear number plate and/or rear lighting devices are obscured by any part of the mechanical coupling device.

TIP

  • The tow hitch and the hitch cover can be stored in the luggage tray.

  • A Kia trailer hitch accessory is available at an authorized Kia dealer.

  • Spare fasteners are included in the license plate bracket package.
