Folding the rear seat

The rear seatbacks can be folded to facilitate carrying long items or to increase the luggage capacity of the vehicle.

WARNING

Never attempt to fold the seat when there are passengers, animals, or other obstructions in the 2nd or 3rd row seats or rear seating area, or while an occupant is entering or exiting the vehicle. Failure to do so increases the risk of serious injury or death. Children occupying the 2nd or 3rd row seats or rear seating area should be supervised at all times.

Folded Seatback

Do not sit on folded or not fully unfolded seatbacks. The purpose of the fold-down rear seatbacks is to allow you to carry longer objects that could not otherwise be accommodated.

  • Never allow a passenger to sit on top of the folded or not fully unfolded seatback while the car is moving. This is not a proper seating position since the seat has important crash protection features and seat belts are not available in this seat configuration.

  • To reduce the risk of injury caused by sliding cargo within the passenger compartment of the vehicle, objects carried on the folded seatback should not extend higher than the top of the front seats.

  1. Insert the rear seat belt buckle in the pocket between the rear seatback and cushion, and insert the rear seat belt webbing in the guide to prevent the seat belt from being damaged.

    • With the gear in P (Park), the seat belt unfastened, and the door open, fold the seatback forwards as far as possible, and pull the upper area of the seatback angle adjustment switch forwards until the seatback is fully folded.

    • If you stop pulling the seatback angle adjustment switch while the seatback is folding or unfolding, the seatback stops moving. To resume, pull the switch again.

  2. Set the front seatback to the upright position and, if necessary, slide the front seat forward.
  3. Lower the rear headrests to the lowest position.
    WARNING

    Objects

    Objects carried on the folded down seatback should not extent higher than top of the front seatbacks. Cargo that extends higher than the top of the front seatbacks could slide forward and cause injury or damage during sudden stops.

  4. Push the seatback angle adjustment switch forward to move the 2nd row seatback forward.

  5. Release the switch once the 2nd row seatback reaches the frontmost seating position.
  6. Push the switch forward to move the 2nd row seat to the folded position.
