If the engine overheats
If this happens, you should:
-
If the fan is not running, turn the engine off.
-
If it is not missing, check to see that it is tight.
-
If the drive belt seems to be satisfactory, check for coolant leaking from the radiator, hoses or under the vehicle. (If the air conditioning had been in use, it is normal for cold water to be draining from it when you stop).
Under the bonnet
Whilst the engine is running, keep hair, hands and clothing away from moving parts, such as the fan and drive belts, to prevent injury.
Coolant reservoir cap
Do not remove the engine and inverter coolant reservoir cap when the engine is hot. This may result in coolant being blown out of the opening and cause serious burns.
If the inverter coolant is running out, call the nearest a professional workshop for assistance. Kia recommends to call an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.
Use of other coolant type or water may damage the inverter.
-
Serious loss of coolant indicates there is a leak in the cooling system and this should be checked as soon as possible by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.
-
When the engine overheats from low engine coolant, suddenly adding engine coolant may cause cracks in the engine. To prevent damage, add engine coolant slowly in small quantities.
If there is not enough coolant for the electrical (power) system, have your vehicle inspected by the professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.
Refilling other type of antifreeze or water may cause malfunction or failure of the electrical (power) system.
