Seat belt restraint system

-
For maximum restraint system protection, the seat belts must always be used whenever the vehicle is moving.
-
Seat belts are most effective when seatbacks are in the upright position.
-
Children age 13 and under must always be properly restrained in the rear seat. Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat. If a child over 13 must be seated in the front seat, he/she must be properly belted and the seat should be moved as far back as possible.
-
Never wear the shoulder belt under your arm or behind your back. An improperly positioned shoulder belt can cause serious injuries in a crash.
The shoulder belt should be positioned midway over your shoulder across your collarbone.
-
Never wear a seat belt over fragile objects. If there is a sudden stop or impact, the seat belt can damage it.
-
Avoid wearing twisted seat belts. A twisted belt can't do its job well. In a collision, it could even cut into you. Be sure the belt webbing is straight and not twisted.
-
Be careful not to damage the belt webbing or hardware. If the belt webbing or hardware is damaged, replace it.

Seat belts are designed to bear upon the bony structure of the body, and should be worn low across the front of the pelvis or the pelvis, chest and shoulders, as applicable; wearing the lap section of the belt across the abdominal area must be avoided.
Seat belts should be adjusted as firmly as possible, consistent with comfort, to provide the protection for which they have been designed.
A slack belt will greatly reduce the protection afforded to the wearer.
Care should be taken to avoid contamination of the webbing with polishes, oils and chemicals, and particularly battery acid. Cleaning may safely be carried out using mild soap and water. The belt should be replaced if webbing becomes frayed, contaminated or damaged. It is essential to replace the entire assembly after it has been worn in a severe impact even if damage to the assembly is not obvious. Belts should not be worn with straps twisted. Each belt assembly must only be used by one occupant; it is dangerous to put a belt around a child being carried on the occupant's lap.

-
No modifications or additions should be made by the user which will either prevent the seat belt adjusting devices from operating to remove slack, or prevent the seat belt assembly from being adjusted to remove slack.
-
When you fasten the seat belt, be careful not to latch the seat belt in buckles of other seat. It's very dangerous and you may not be protected by the seat belt properly.
-
Do not unfasten the seat belt and do not fasten and unfasten the seat belt repeatedly while driving. This could result in loss of control, and an accident causing death, serious injury, or property damage.
-
When fastening the seat belt, make sure that the seat belt does not pass over objects that are hard or can break easily.
-
Make sure there is nothing in the buckle. The seat belt may not be fastened securely.
Driver's seat belt warning (if equipped)

As a reminder to the driver, the seat belt warning light will appear for approximately 6 seconds each time you turn the ignition switch or the ENGINE START/STOP button is in ON regardless of belt fastening and warning chime will sound for approximately 6 seconds each time you turn the ignition switch or the ENGINE START/STOP button is in ON when the belt is unfastened.
If a driver continue not to fasten the seat belt and drive below 20km/h, the warning light will stay illuminated.
If a driver continue not to fasten the seat belt while driving over 20km/h, the seat belt warning chime will sound for approximately 100 seconds and the corresponding warning light will blink.
If a driver unfasten the seat belt while driving below 20km/h, the warning light will stay illuminated.
If a driver unfasten the seat belt while driving over 20km/h, the seat belt warning chime will sound for approximately 100 seconds and the corresponding warning light will blink.
Front passenger's seat belt warning
As a reminder to the front passenger, the front passenger’s seat belt warning lights will appear for approximately 6 seconds each time you turn the ignition switch or the ENGINE START/STOP button in ON regardless of belt fastening.
If the front passenger continue not to fasten the seat belt and drive below 20km/h, the warning light will stay illuminated.
If the front passenger continue not to fasten the seat belt while driving over 20km/h, the seat belt warning chime will sound for approximately 100 seconds and the corresponding warning light will blink.
If the front passenger unfasten the seat belt while driving below 20km/h, the warning light will stay illuminated.
If the front passenger unfasten the seat belt while driving over 20km/h, the seat belt warning chime will sound for approximately 100 seconds and the corresponding warning light will blink.
Lap/shoulder belt
To fasten your seat belt:

-
Grasp the buckle and tongue plate.
-
Slowly pull the lap/shoulder belt out from the retractor.
-
Insert the tongue plate (1) into the open end of the buckle (2) until an audible “click” is heard, indicating the belt is locked in the buckle.
-
Position the lap portion of the belt across your lap as LOW ON THE HIPS as possible to reduce the risk of sliding under it during an accident. Adjust the belt to a SNUG FIT by pulling up on the shoulder portion of the safety belt. The belt retractor is designed to take up excess webbing automatically and to maintain tension on the belt. For your safety, do not put any excess slack into the safety belt at any location.

If you are not able to pull out the safety belt from the retractor, firmly pull the belt out and release it. Then you will be able to pull the belt out smoothly.

You should place the lap belt portion as low as possible and snugly across your hips, not on your waist. If the lap belt is located too high on your waist, it may increase the chance of injury in the event of a collision. Both arms should not be under or over the belt. Rather, one should be over and the other under, as shown in the illustration.
Never wear the seat belt under the arm near the door.
To release the seat belt:

The seat belt is released by pressing the release button (1) in the locking buckle. When it is released, the belt should automatically draw back into the retractor. If this does not happen, check the belt to be sure it is not twisted, then try again.

-
The seatbacks should always remain in a comfortable, upright position while the vehicle is in motion. The safety belt system will provide the most protection with the seatbacks in an upright position.
-
Never wear the shoulder portion of the safety belt under the outside arm or behind the back.
-
Never wear the shoulder portion of the safety belt across the neck or face.
-
Wear the lap portion of the safety belt as low on the hips as possible. Be sure the lap belt fits snugly around the hips. Never wear the lap belt over your waist.
-
Never drive or ride with a twisted or jammed safety belt. If you cannot untwist or unjam the safety belt, Kia recommends to contact an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
-
Never use a single belt to restrain more than one person at a time.
Failure to follow these warnings will increase the risk and severity of injury in an accident.
Lap belt (if equipped)
To fasten your seat belt:
-
Grasp the tongue plate end and pull it low over the abdomen.
-
Insert the tongue plate (1) into the open end of the buckle (2) until an audible “click” is heard, indicating the latch is locked. Make sure the belt is not twisted.

-
Grasp the free portion of the belt webbing and pull until the belt is snug over the hips and lower abdomen. If it becomes necessary to lengthen or shorten the belt, hold the latch plate tongue at right angles to the webbing and pull.

-
Make sure that the belt is placed as LOW ON THE HIPS as possible.

To release the seat belt:

Press the release button (1) on buckle.

Lap belt
Be sure the lap belt is positioned snugly around the hips, and not on the waist. Failure to position the lap belt snugly around the hips will increase the chance and severity of injury in the event of a collision.

When you fold the center seatback, put the center safety belt into the rear seatback pocket of the driver’s seat. Doing so can prevent the safety belt from being damaged by the center seatback.
