NOTICE

Warning lights

Make sure that all warning lights are OFF after starting the engine. If any light is still ON, this indicates a situation that needs attention.

Air bag Warning Light (if equipped)

This warning light appears:
  • Once you set the ignition switch to the ON position.

    • It appears for approximately 6 seconds and then goes off.

  • When there is a malfunction with the SRS.

    In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Seat Belt Warning Light

This warning light informs the driver that the seat belt is not fastened.

Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Light

This warning light appears:
  • Once you set the ignition switch to the ON position.

    • It appears for approximately 3 seconds

    • It remains on if the parking brake is applied.

  • When the parking brake is applied.

  • When the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.

    • If the warning light appears with the parking brake released, it indicates the brake fluid level in reservoir is low.

If the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low:
  1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop your vehicle.

  2. With the engine stopped, check the brake fluid level immediately and add fluid as required (For more details, refer to More Details.). Then check all brake components for fluid leaks. If any leak on the brake system is still found, the warning light remains on, or the brakes do not operate properly, do not drive the vehicle. In this case, have the vehicle towed to a professional workshop and inspected.

    WARNING

    Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Light

    Driving the vehicle with a warning light ON is dangerous. If the Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Light appears with the parking brake released, it indicates that the brake fluid level is low.

    In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light (if equipped)

This warning light appears:
  • Once you set the ignition switch to the ON position.

    • It appears for approximately 3 seconds and then goes off.

  • When there is a malfunction with the ABS (The normal braking system will still be operational without the assistance of the anti-lock brake system).

    In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) System Warning Light (if equipped)

These two warning lights appears at the same time while driving:
  • When the ABS and regular brake system may not work normally.

WARNING

Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) System Warning Light

When both ABS and Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Lights are on, the brake system will not work normally and you may experience an unexpected and dangerous situation during sudden braking.

In this case, avoid high speed driving and abrupt braking.

Have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

NOTICE

Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) System Warning Light

When the ABS Warning Light is on or both ABS and Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Lights are on, the speedometer, odometer, or tripmeter may not work.

In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)

This warning light appears:
  • Once you set the ignition switch to the ON position.

    • It remains on until the engine is started.

  • When there is a malfunction with the emission control system.

    In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

CAUTION
  • Prolonged driving with the Emission Control System Malfunction Indicator Light () illuminated may cause damage to the emission control systems which could effect drivability and/or fuel economy.

  • If the Emission Control System Malfunction Indicator Light () begins to flash ON and OFF, potential catalytic converter damage is possible which could result in loss of engine power. In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

CAUTION

Diesel engine (if equipped with DPF)

When the malfunction indicator light is blinks, it may stop blinking after driving the vehicle at more than 60km/h (37 mph) or at more than second gear with 1500 ~ 2500 engine rpm for a certain time (for about 25 minutes).

If the malfunction indicator light continues to be blinked in spite of the procedure, have the system checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

If you continue to drive with the malfunction indicator light blinking for a long time, the DPF system can be damaged and fuel consumption can be worsen.

CAUTION

Diesel engine

If the Emission Control System Malfunction Indicator Light blinks, some error related to the injection quantity adjustment occurs which could result in loss of engine power, combustion noise and poor emission.

In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Charging System Warning Light

This warning light appears:
  • Once you set the ignition switch to the ON position.

    • It remains on until the engine is started.

  • When there is a malfunction with either the alternator or electrical charging system.

If there is a malfunction with either the alternator or electrical charging system:
  1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop your vehicle.

  2. Turn the engine off and check the alternator drive belt for looseness or breakage.

    If the belt is adjusted properly, there may be a problem in the electrical charging system.

    In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop as soon as possible.

Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light

This warning light appears:
  • Once you set the ignition switch to the ON position.

    • It remains on until the engine is started.

  • When the engine oil pressure is low.

  • Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop your vehicle.

  • Turn the engine off and check the engine oil level (For more details, refer to More Details or More Details.). If the level is low, add oil as required.

  • If the warning light remains on after adding oil or if oil is not available, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner. Continued driving with the warning light on may cause engine failure.

NOTICE

When engine oil pressure decreases due to insufficient engine oil, etc., the Engine Oil Pressure warning light will appear.

Low Fuel Level Warning Light

This warning light appears:

When the fuel tank is nearly empty.

If the fuel tank is nearly empty:

Add fuel as soon as possible.

CAUTION

Low Fuel Level

Driving with the Low Fuel Level warning light on or with the fuel level below “E” can cause the engine to misfire and damage the catalytic converter (if equipped).

Low Tire Pressure Warning Light (if equipped)

This warning light appears:
  • Once you set the ignition switch to the ON position.

    • It appears for approximately 3 seconds and then goes off.

  • When one or more of your tires are significantly underinflated.

This warning light remains on after blinking for approximately 70 seconds or repeats blinking and off at the intervals of approximately 3 seconds:
  • When there is a malfunction with the TPMS.

WARNING

Safe Stopping

  • The TPMS cannot alert you to severe and sudden tire damage caused by external factors.

  • If you notice any vehicle instability, immediately take your foot off the accelerator pedal, apply the brakes gradually with light force, and slowly move to a safe position off the road.

Fuel Filter Warning Light

This warning light appears:
  • Once you set the ignition switch to the ON position.

    • It appears for approximately 3 seconds and then goes off.

  • When water has accumulated inside the fuel filter. In this case, remove the water from the fuel filter.

CAUTION

Fuel Filter Warning Light

  • When the Fuel Filter Warning Light appears, engine power (vehicle speed & idle speed) may decrease.

  • If you keep driving with the warning light on, engine parts (injector, common rail, high pressure fuel pump) may be damaged. If this occurs, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop as soon as possible. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Overspeed Warning Light (if equipped)

This warning light blinks:
  • When you drive the vehicle more than 120 km/h (74 mph).

    • This is to prevent you from driving your vehicle with overspeed.

Master Warning Light (if equipped)

This indicator light appears:
  • This warning light informs the driver the following situations

    • TPMS failure, low pressure (if equipped)

If the warning situation is solved, the master warning light will turn off.

Exhaust system (DPF) Warning Light (if equipped)

This warning light appears:
  • When there is a malfunction with Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system.

  • When this warning light appears, it may turn off after driving the vehicle:

    • at more than 60km/h (37 mph), or

    • at more than 2nd gear with 1500 ~ 2500 engine rpm for a certain time (for about 25 minutes).

If this warning light blinks in spite of the procedure (at this time the LCD warning message will be displayed), have the DPF system checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

CAUTION

Diesel Engine with DPF (if equipped)

If you continue to drive with the DPF warning light blinking for a long time, the DPF system can be damaged and fuel consumption can worsen.

SCR warning light (if equipped)

This warning light appears:
  • When the urea solution tank is nearly empty.

If the urea solution tank is nearly empty:
  • Refill urea solution as soon as possible.

Door Ajar Warning Light

This warning light appears:

When a door is not closed securely.

Safety belt warning chime

If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition key is turned “ON” or if it is disconnected after the key is ON, the safety belt warning chime will sound for approximately 6 seconds.

Key reminder warning chime (if equipped)

If the driver’s door is opened and the ignition key is left in the ignition switch in the LOCK or ACC position, the key reminder warning chime will sound. This is to prevent you from locking your keys in the vehicle.

Parking brake warning sound

If the vehicle driven at 10km/h (6mph) for more 2~3 than seconds, the warning chime will sound continuously when the parking brake engaged.
